Ensure you have a circular saw, measuring tape, screws, drill, and silicone caulking.
Measure and mark the dimensions of the plywood using the measuring tape and pencil. Once you have the outline, cut the board to the desired shape with a circular saw.
Once you have the outline, use the saw to cut the board to the desired shape. Assemble the sides of the plywood to the desired height of your planter. These pieces will be the walls of the mold; make sure the walls are sturdy and well-aligned with the base.
Attach the side to the base using screws and drill to ensure they are fastened.
The release agent is needed for the next step to prevent concrete from sticking to the mold. Brush a thin layer of release agent. As a substitute, you can use vegetable oil. The thin layer is applied inside of the mold. The release agent will make removing the planter easier once the concrete is fully cured.
Once the mold is fully assembled and the release agent is applied, it’s time to mix and pour the concrete. Mix the concrete per the instruction on the package. Pour the concrete into the mold. As you pour the concrete, shake or tap the sides of the mold to eliminate bubbles and ensure proper mixing.
Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours or recommended by the cement manufacturers.
Once the concrete has fully cured, it’s time to remove the planter from the mold. Gently tap the sides and bottom of the mold to loosen the concrete, then carefully lift the mold away. If needed, use sandpaper to smooth any rough edges or imperfections on the planter’s surface.
